There's a Tiger in the Garden by Lizzy Stewart

There's a Tiger in the Garden. Written and illustrated by Lizzy Stewart. Winner of the Waterstones Children's Book Prize 2017, Illustrated Books Category.

A charming and thought-provoking picture-book by the much loved author/illustrator Lizzy Stewart.

Nora is staying at Grandma's house and one day Grandma says she's seen a tiger in the garden, but Nora doesn't believe her. Until Nora journeys out into Grandma's garden and discovers something amazing.

There's a Tiger in the Garden by Lizzy Stewart is one of our favourite picture-books about imagination, family and discovery.

The illustrations are whimsical and vibrant and we love the textures and detail within the illustrations. In her illustrations Lizzy captures the delight and imagination on childhood. Nora discovers exotic plants that can swallow you whole, enormous dragonflies and even a grumpy polar bear. As you journey through the pages of this picture-book there is so much to look at and spot, from the little colourful birds hiding in the undergrowth, to the splattered paint texture on the dragonflies wings.

We love how Lizzy captures the playfulness of childhood. The main character Nora has lots of movement and personality and her little toy giraffe, called Jeff is adorable. Children will love to follow Jeff the giraffe on each page as he and Nora explores Grandma's garden.

This picture-book is perfect for encouraging imaginative play and discovery. The text is easy to read, fun and engaging and there is plenty to spot and talk about within the illustrations.

This is one of our favourite pages. Lizzy Stewart captures Nora's wonder beautifully.
