The Night Box

The Night Box by Louise Greig. Illustrated by Ashling Lindsay.

When young Max opens The Night Box, darkness soars out. Stars spark in the sky, a swan flies home and animals come out to play. Night is quite, it turns tiny sounds up loud and keeps huge things wrapped up safe. At night owl and fox come out to play and night chases all colours away.
An enchanting bedtime story about night time. Beautifully written in lyrical tones by Louise Greig. This is a great bedtime read and a magical and atmospheric story.

Ashling Lindsay's illustrations are tender and warm. With delicate and sensitive characters to engage young children. The pages are beautifully detailed with soft and sophisticated illustrations. There are lots of double page spreads that are striking and atmospheric.

From beautiful night time scenes, birds eye view scenes to cosy and warm interiors of the house, the illustrations link splendidly with the text.

Our favourite page is where the swan soars over Max's house The page is striking with the swan flying though the nights sky. We can see Max waving to the swan in the booth corner of the page. Beautiful atmospheric background with the text sitting nicely within the moon.

The characters are engaging and believe with detailed features. The interior scenes are referenced well and are lovely and cosy. There is lots of detail from cute little bunny slippers, all of Max's soft toys to find and the playful animals that come out at night.
